I photograph people who are certain they photograph badly.

That belief nearly always comes from the same place: every picture you have of yourself was taken by someone who wasn't paying attention. A phone at a party. A group shot where you blinked. A work headshot done in eleven minutes against a grey wall.

A session is the opposite of that. We take our time. Nobody is waiting on us. I talk while I work, and about twenty minutes in you stop performing and just exist for a while — that is when the good frames happen, and it happens to everyone.

I shoot in available light wherever possible, mostly at 85mm, mostly close. I edit each frame by hand and hand back a small, finished set rather than a folder of hundreds.
